So I just posted a picture of Judy Fox’s sculpture of the Virgin Mary. Fox depicts the Madonna as a a young child. Madonna is depicted as no more than 4 or 5 years old, with a flat chest and genitalia totally without pubic hair. Now let’s take a step back and analyse this picture more.
After looking at the picture a little, I started to think. I think Fox chose to depict the Virgin Mary as a young child because that’s how our society likes to treat her. Mary, like a child, is thought of as innocent and totally without of fault or sexuality.
Come on people. Let’s use our noggins. Mary did have other kids after Jesus, which means she had to have sex.
“OH NO! not our Mary! Not our sweet little innocent Madonna!” Is probably close to what you’re thinking right now. But you have to face the facts sooner or later.
Mary was a normal woman. Just like me, my mom, my grandmother and every other woman in the world. She had sex. She probably sinned. Deal with it. Mary handled her business (And I love her for it, I really do) then she got on with her life.
